Eyevensys uses its EyeCET electro-transfection technology to deliver plasmids with the genetic code needed for the production of a therapeutic protein, into the cells of the ciliary muscle in the eye.
The ETIS device allows a highly accurate injection of these plasmids inside the ciliary muscle. A pre-defined sequence of very short electrical pulses will result in the efficient transfection of the cells.
The procedure in itself is minimally invasive, very fast, and may be completed in less than 5 minutes.
The ciliary muscle cells will continuously produce the therapeutic protein of interest over an extended period of time. The level of expression of the protein may be controlled and is dose-treatment dependent.
